One of the most highly-regarded accompanists in London today, Stephen is a senior vocal coach at the Guildhall School of Music and National Opera Studio, and a guest coach at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice. The accompanist in residence with the Philharmonia Chorus, he previously worked as a repetiteur and harpsichordist with the Welsh National Opera, and has also enjoyed guest seasons in France, Italy, Norway, Turkey, USA, South America and a recital tour of Russia.

As a performer on stage and BBC Radio, his varied career has included numerous recitals and the West End drama Marie, which is currently touring the UK.

He has coached or performed at all the major British Festivals including Glyndebourne, Aldeburgh, Edinburgh, Bath, Wexford and the National Eisteddfodau in Wales.

Merril is a freelance singing teacher and tutor for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the London College of Music, based at Thames Valley University. An award-winning soprano and experienced adjudicator, she gives opera, oratorio and lieder recitals and master classes throughout Britain, many jointly with Stephen Rose. Trained in Vienna, Merril has performed with English National Opera, the Philharmonia and London Philharmonic orchestras and London Mozart Players.

A frequent broadcaster in her native Wales (TV and Radio) she performed with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and as guest artist at the National Eisteddfod gala concerts. Operatic roles have included Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Mimi in La Boheme and Antonia in The Tales of Hoffman with opera houses and companies in Austria, Switzerland, France and South America.
